Acupuncture - the only hope for Patients with SCA
Last Friday when I visit at the clinic of my master, the Chinese medicine doctor tsung-kai Wen, there was a male patient, whose gait was particularly careful when he walked into the clinic, as if he were very afraid of falling. When he started talking about his symptoms, he spoke with a lisp. He stated that he had been diagnosed with Spinocerebellar Ataxia (SCA) at the Veterans General Hospital half a year ago. In addition to the poor sense of balance, lack of hand-eye coordination and poor handwriting, he also suffered from blurry vision, impaired physical strength, drowsiness and fatigue. Since he worked as a mechanical technician, he needed to talk to his clients. However, what had troubled him the most was that, because his speech had slowed down and he lisped, his clients thought that he was drunk and gradually distanced themselves from him.
